Before planning began for Stadium Square and Sutherland South, an important milestone helped shape the future of the University's endowment lands.

In 2022, the University of Saskatchewan announced the creation of the USask Properties Trust and its independent Board of Trustees — a governance model established to guide the responsible planning, development, and stewardship of approximately 991 acres of university endowment lands.

Stewarding a Unique Asset

Rather than serving the day-to-day needs of the campus, these lands are being thoughtfully developed to generate long-term revenue that supports the University's academic mission, including teaching, research, and student priorities.

USask Properties was established to lead this work, creating complete, sustainable neighbourhoods that reflect the University's values while strengthening the communities around them.

Independent leadership, shared purpose.

The announcement also introduced the independent Board of Trustees responsible for overseeing the Trust.

Bringing together expertise in governance, finance, real estate, law, planning, and community development, the Board provides strategic oversight to help ensure decisions are guided by responsible stewardship, long-term thinking, and sound governance.

From vision to reality.

Today, that vision is becoming tangible.

Stadium Square and Sutherland South represent the first neighbourhoods being planned under this long-term framework. While each community will develop its own identity, both reflect the principles that have guided the project from the beginning: thoughtful planning, environmental responsibility, meaningful community engagement, and a commitment to creating lasting value.
